I look forward on a regular basis to making the drive up to our sons to spend a weekend with our only grandchild, a two-year-old boy named Andrew. It is a 235 mile drive and it takes us about 4-5 hours. We are older and have to get out of the car to move around frequently. We usually leave early in the morning and make our first stop for a light breakfast. We sometimes take a picnic lunch to eat along the highway at the rest stop areas if the weather permits. When we arrive we usually just get the opportunity to take over Andrew’s care and fun for the weekend. Andrew is still nursing and sleeps with Mommy and Daddy so he is still considered too little to be this far away from home if he were to come stay with us. We look forward to the day when he can come to stay for a few days without his parents. We feel that Grandparents and grandchildren need the one on one and parents need a break occasionally. Since he is not permitted to come here to stay alone, our children are very generous with sharing him when we visit and when they come here. He gets to see his other grandparents every day as they live five minutes away and baby sit while mommy works.

This past weekend we had the time of our lives! We traveled 235 miles by car to our only grandchild’s second birthday. We had a five-day celebration. We arrived late on the first day and ordered pizza for dinner. The next day, which was Andrew’s actual birthday, his parents both took off work and his parents and we took Andrew to the “Bouncy House” to play for hours. I am not sure who had the most fun, but we know who came out with the most bruises and aches. That evening we had a special dinner with his other grandparents, my husband and I, Andrew and his parents. His mom had ordered a special Mater cake from a cake baker. Mater is Andrew’s favorite truck from the Disney Pixar Cars group. The next day while his parents worked, Grandpa and I took him to a playground at Jekyll Island, GA and out to lunch before home for a nap. On Saturday, Andrew’s parents hosted a special party for his little friends at a place called Beau’s Barnyard. There were animals to feed, bottles for baby animals, hot dogs, ice cream, cupcakes and goodie bags. The next morning we headed for home, as we had a long drive. What a great time and week.

Every man is highly concerned about the things which you have at home. You will need to protect each product from fire. As you know the clothes are the ones which can easily catch fire. The upholsteries, curtains, bed covers and table cloth can also easily catch fire. The house has a chance to catch fire due to carelessness of people. Now it is easy to protect the products from fire. This is possible if you use fabric fire retardant spray. This is sure to protect the expensive clothes, accessories and products at home. Everyone should use this for the security of one’s home and you can buy them at fewer prices.

If I could change one thing about the world, regardless of guilt or politics it would be to reinitiate consideration back into the human race. It seems in the last several years we have all gotten so lost in ourselves that there is no consideration for anyone any longer no matter what the situation. When waiting in line at the movies or grocery store, there is no consideration for anyone who might need to get ahead for one reason or another. Let’s not even discuss the lack of consideration with the drivers on our roads these days and it just gets worse as the speed limits are raised and roads are widened. Children no longer have the consideration for their elders that used to be just a part of life and expected. Our world as we once knew it is not the same and lack of consideration is a very large part of the problem.

The kind of music that I like the best is the older type of rock and roll with a special interest in slow love songs that actually tell a story. I started to watch Bandstand when I was three years old because my babysitter had teenage girls who got home from school right at 3:00 PM as the show started. Also included in some of that favorite music from back then is some country that I remember well from my father’s collection of Johnny Cash and Tony Bennett. The girls brought me up on this music until I was old enough to go to school for all day and had to move to another area. They taught me to dance and sing when I was between three and six years old and I know the words and the dances still today. I will never forget that music and listen to it exclusively in the car and in our home. The type of music I like the least is the new rock. We refer to it as “head banging” music. A lot of the lyrics are vulgar and provide no entertainment to our age group. The rap music is for a different generation altogether.

We went there because my husband is a veteran and always wanted to visit the Pearl Harbor Memorial and the Battleship Missouri, a twin to the ship he went to Vietnam on. While in Hawaii we only visited the island of Oahu because there is so much to do there that the other islands were out of reach for us both financially and for time available. We stay on the island near Waikiki Beach for 7 nights.
During our stay we visited the Pearl Harbor and Arizona memorials and the Battleship Missouri. We had arranged for a private tour guide for the Battleship Missouri and it was well worth it. We also spent an entire 12-hour day with a private guide at the Polynesian Cultural Center. The center includes shows and personnel from all of the seven islands that make up the South Pacific, Hawaii being one of these islands. The day was full of shows, information, educational material and ended with a delicious REAL Luau followed by a spectacular night fire show. We visited several other unguided sights. Among them was the famous Matsumotos Shaved Ice store and shopping center, the Bedouin Temple, The beach at Waikiki, and drove completely around the entire island to see all the surfing and beach areas every day that we were in Oahu.

Dixie is a grocery store chain in our area. Winn Dixie is where we purchase all of our groceries. Every week they publish a flier that includes not only their sale items, but also several buy one get one free sale items. Winn Dixie has just gotten involved in a Gas Perks program. The more you spend at the store the more money you get to take off each gallon of gas at the specified suppliers. Groceries are so expensive and hard to come by on a fixed income that this one time gift certificate would prove very valuable to us, as we are on a very fixed income.

It is told that emergency panic bolts came to be used after the Victoria Hall Disaster, England. Especially after the Iroquois Theatre Fire, USA killing as many as 602 people panic bars came to be used widely. They are one way safety pathways in buildings mostly required as fire exits or any other emergency event usually made of metal bar fixtures. Others are built inside glass boxes which are then broken with a hammer or similar tools which automatically opens the emergency exit door. Also called crash bars which release the latch upon being pushed.

Some of the different jobs I have had in my life are babysitting, managing a pizzeria, nursing assistant in a geriatric facility, counselor and program supervisor in a residential facility for court placed delinquent young men age 12-18, optical office work, dispensing optician, American Red Cross Executive position, and managing a plumbing company with four plumbers working under one Master plumber. Of all the job and positions I have held, the one I loved the most was the nursing position in the residential geriatric facility. It was always my dream to go to nursing school and when I accepted this position, that was the reason. I expected to save money for school and get my education while working in the facility. My hours at the facility were very flexible and the staff worked very well with a school schedule, however, I chose to get married and marriage and school did not work. When I became pregnant with my first child, I knew that I would never have the time or money for nursing school and family support was lacking which is co important.

The most beautiful place I have ever seen in my life is the island of Oahu, Hawaii. There are so many beautiful cultural and natural things to see and do there. The sky is beautiful every day and you can always look up and see a mountaintop with clouds around it. The cultural education you can receive in just a few days there is nothing short of breathtaking. You can se and hear stories of kings and queens and revolutions and governments. You can hear the story of how the Hawaiian really don’t want to be part of the United States but were forced to through a kind of Civil War that overthrew their government. Pearl Harbor is a most beautiful tribute to our fallen soldiers of the attack on December 7, 1941 and in the background the Arizona Memorial with its’ flag rising is just so amazing. The Battleship Missouri sits not far away and is open to private and public tours.
