Fun in the cold

This past weekend was a sad one. I had to say goodbye to my girlfriend as she was leaving to go study abroad. It was a very emotional time as we will have to go for several months without seeing each other. However, that was the end of the weekend. The days previous, were much more lighthearted. My girlfriend and I went to the zoo, even though it was cold out. It was worth it, as there weren’t nearly as many people there as in the summertime which was nice. All in all, it was a pretty good weekend. I wouldn’t trade it.

Three day weekends

If I could change one thing about the world, I would change the length of a week. As a culture, Americans are incredibly stressed out. We’re constantly working, often more than 40 hours a week at jobs that most of us don’t even enjoy doing. People who are overworked are under a lot of stress, and they take that stress out on the people around them. I am convinced that if people had a longer weekend, people would be a lot happier. That is more time to do the things to actually enjoy. More time to spend with the people you love. Fewer poorly thought out, rushed decisions.

Be Safe with Fire Retardent Sprays

When the weather becomes dry and trees/plants obtain less water, they have the potential to become fuel for fires. Be safe by using fire retardant to decrease the combustible nature of these fuels. Especially during Christmas, it would be wise to spray Christmas trees with fire retardant. Fire causes billions of dollars in damages every year and the best way to stop these fires to prevention (i.e. fire retardants). Some fire retardants are non-toxic that can be sprayed on most fabrics, while others should not be used on regular clothes. It is also suggested that when using the spray, it should be sprayed in a well ventilated area. Use these tips as a starting point, and prevent fires and damages from happening.

Mozart Madness

My favorite music is classical music. That isn’t to say that I don’t like more modern rock and some rap. I do like all those too, but I always come back to classical music. I find it peaceful, exciting, and exceedingly complex. The ways that different tones from oboes and violins and trumpets meld together into this beautiful tapestry of sound is amazing. I am really amazed at the talent involved in the creation of beautiful symphonies. My least favorite kind of music is Electronic music. It’s possible that I just don’t understand it well enough, but I find it to be far too repetitive to be enjoyable.

There and back again

The farthest from home that I have ever traveled was to Germany. I am from Pennsylvania, USA so central Europe was quite a trip. I went because I love German culture, German food, and the German language. It was excited to be able to practice my abilities as a German speaker, while taking in all the breathtaking architecture and sights. Many of the buildings in cities like Berlin or Munich are older than the United States itself, so it is really neat to be able to stand inside of them and appreciate the intricate details in their design.

Lego Store extravaganza

If I had to choose a single store for a $1000 shopping spree, it’d probably have to be the Lego store. Lego stores are found in many malls, and sell Lego sets. Lego is one of the greatest toys in the world, allowing unlimited creativity for all ages. There is little more satisfying than snapping the final piece into place in your very own Lego creation. $1000 at a Lego store would afford a vast number of pieces moving any large Lego project well within anyone’s reach. Imagine wanting to build a Lego Empire State building, and knowing that you had the Lego capital to achieve it. That is true joy.

Early Morning solitude

I have had a fair number of jobs in my life. I’ve worked backstage at a theatre. I worked for a while at an engineering firm. I even worked in a warehouse, hauling boxes in and out of trucks. None of those jobs compare to my favorite job though. When I was younger, my first job was delivering newspapers. I would wake up early in the morning and go out, walking up and down the streets silently dropping newspapers at peoples’ front doors. The quiet serenity of being the only person outside in the cool of the morning really was something special.

Carbon Monoxide Detectors Save Lives

The carbon monoxide alarm is less commonly found in average homes, but just as vital to all of our health and safety, as smoke detectors. Smoke detectors alert us to the presence of smoke. They send a signal to alert us to the presence of smoke. Smoke detectors are most useful when we are asleep or inattentive. carbon monoxide alarms are crucial because whether we are paying attention or not, we cannot detect this odorless, tasteless, colorless and toxic gas without help from mechanical sources. Place carbon monoxide alarms any place in your house near motors, tools powered by gasoline, cooking and heating equipment.

Dream Vacation

If I weregiven the opportunity, my dream vacation would probably be in Alaska in the Summer. Watching the wild animals roam free, and the gorgeous sunrises and sunsets would just take my breath away. Nowhere in the United States is there a wilderness experience quite like what is available in Alaska. While there, I could go on a cruise and go whale watching. That would truly be a once in a lifetime experience. At night, the sky would light up with the aurora borealis, one of nature’s most beautiful creations, while millions of stars shine down from the clear night sky.

There is only one thing about me that only my parents and my husband know about me. My huge secret is that my middle name only has two letters in it. My middle name is Jo. Although it only has two letters in it, and its not that big of a deal, many people can never guess it right. I never tell anyone my middle name because its something I let people wonder about to make them think what kind of name has only two letters. I had one girl I went to school with geuss for a week and she never did get it right ?
